The Dulles Toll Road has converted to an all-electronic and cashless payment system. Pay-by-plate will replace the cash payment option. Motorists who don't pay tolls electronically will be identified by their vehicle license plate and receive an invoice to their registered address.

Motorists have several convenient methods to electronically pay tolls along the Dulles Toll Road:

  • E-ZPass is the preferred form of toll payment. It is also accepted at many other toll facilities around the country. You must have an E-ZPass transponder, an E-ZPass Flex transponder.

  • Website: Toll road drivers without E-ZPass can visit tollroadsinvirginia.com, operated by the Virginia Department of Transportation, to pay a toll online before or after receiving an invoice.

  • Smartphone applications from private companies offer another way to pay. Examples include GoToll, Slora, Uproad and NextPass. The license plate on the vehicle you're driving must match the one listed on the electronic payment. Users can expect to incur fees set by the companies in addition to toll payment.

All missed tolls not paid for using an electronic payment method will use the Pay-By-Plate system for toll payment.  /electronic-payments-and-pay-plate
