How to Pay Tolls

Various payment options are available when you arrive at a toll plaza on the Dulles Toll Road. The following describes each lane type and forms of payment accepted in each lane:        

E-ZPass Only:  The easiest way to travel along the Dulles Toll Road is by using E-Z Pass. To use "E-Z Pass Only" lanes you must have an E-ZPass transponder, an E-ZPass Flex transponder, the Go Toll smartphone app or the Peasey Drive On smartphone app. Your electronic payment must be connected to the liscense plate on the vehicle you're driving. 


Exact Change:  The machines will ONLY accept coins. Acceptable coins include quarters and one dollar coins. E-ZPass and E-ZPass Flex transponders are also accepted. 


Full Service:  The Main Plaza is staffed 24/7. The Ramp Plazas are staffed from 5:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Outside the staffed hours on the Ramp Plazas, you must have coins only or an E-ZPass/E-ZPass Flex transponder.


The following forms of payment are not accepted: bills over $20, $.50/half-dollar coins, checks, money orders, travelers checks, credit cards and foreign currency.

  • GREEN = Toll Paid/E-ZPass Paid 
  • YELLOW = Low Balance=

Missed paying a toll?

Drivers who are unable to pay a toll while driving on the Dulles Toll Road have up to six days to pay the toll without penalty. To pay a missed toll violatoin, visit the Virginia Department of Transportation Customer Service Center missed toll information page, select the Dulles Toll Road and follow the on-screne prompts for payment.
