Drivers should be aware of closed lanes, traffic impacts

Infrastructure improvements will begin Wednesday, September 12, along the Dulles Toll Road. Improvements include a new toll collection system, which will replace an outdated 30-year-old system, as well as digital lane signage, enhanced violation camera technology and upgraded vehicle classification readers and antennas.

Drivers should be aware of lane closures over the next several months, as individual lanes close for construction. To minimize impacts to customers, lane closures will be limited to one land east-bound and one lane west-bound, and a minimum of two full service lanes will be maintained at the Mainline Toll Plaza at all times in each direction. Two full-time crews will be deployed, working flexible hours seven days per week, starting at opposite ends of the toll road. Motorists and media will receive updates via the Dulles Toll Road Facebook page, Twitter and the website throughout the project.
